High net worth divorce may impact Georgia men more than women

On Behalf of | Oct 1, 2013 | Uncategorized |

A high net worth divorce can be costly for some Georgia residents. Individuals that have a high net worth have possibly taken steps to protect their assets, but that isn’t always the case. A recent article discussing why wealthy men prefer to date women that are not equally wealthy could provide some insight as to why a high net worth divorce may occur.

In a study that surveyed millionaires, almost 80 percent of men stated they seek out and prefer to date non-millionaire women. While the survey also suggested that men appear to want to share their wealth with women, that may only be the case until a divorce takes place. Millionaire men that date women with less money may wish to look into ways they can protect their assets should a divorce occur. The survey also showed that less than 18 percent of millionaire men enter a marriage with a prenuptial agreement.

The other side of this survey showed that millionaire women are more likely to protect their assets, both by dating men equal to their financial status as well as requiring a prenuptial agreement. This suggests that women aren’t looking to take care of a man. According to the study, 82 percent of women would in fact insist on a prenuptial agreement.

Georgia residents, male or female, facing a high net worth divorce could benefit from looking into their rights under the applicable state laws. Even if a prenuptial agreement is in place it can be important for a person to understand what the divorce process and be able to protect their assets. Hopefully, with the proper knowledge a person can maintain their financial stability following their divorce.
