Georgia men: alimony is not just for women

Women have gained more rights over the years and taken on more of an equal role. In some households, women are now considered the breadwinners of the family. As a result, some are now paying alimony to their ex-husbands. Georgia residents in this situation may take a special interest in a recent article that discussed this topic.

One specific case described a man with three children who now receives alimony from his ex-wife. The couple has three children together. The man does have a job with a medical device company, but his ex-wife is an orthopedic surgeon and makes more than he does. The man stated that it was not a big deal for him to ask for alimony, and his friends and family didn't make a big deal out of it either -- although if it had been a few years ago, the situation may have been different.

His ex-wife reportedly did not have an issue with the payments either. It was discussed how the number of men receiving support has continually increased over the years, and this is clearly a trend. It is no longer taboo for a man to be a stay-at-home father while the woman works. In cases such as this, when a divorce happens, the woman may be ordered to pay alimony since the man has potentially sacrificed his career in order to take care of the children and support his wife.

Georgia residents that are involved in an alimony situation or feel they may be in the future may want to research the applicable laws regarding who is entitled to alimony. Since men and women are on more equal playing grounds in today's society, they are also seen as equals when it comes to alimony payments. Any man who feels he is entitled to such payments could benefit from understanding his options.
