A parenting agreement can resolve many child custody issues

On Behalf of | Aug 21, 2018 | Child Custody |

As you move through your divorce, you and your ex-spouse will have to work out the finer details regarding child custody and related issues. While you hope this goes smoothly, you know that it could be a sticking point.

A parenting agreement can help resolve many child custody issues, as this provides both individuals with a clear idea of what they are and are not permitted to do.

The information you include in a parenting agreement is unique to your situation. Some of the things to consider including are as follows:

  • The parent who will have physical custody of the child
  • If one or both parents will have legal custody
  • A visitation schedule for the noncustodial parent
  • A schedule to help facilitate where the child will spend holidays, birthdays and any other events
  • A system for ensuring that the child can have contact with extended family members

Once you agree on everything regarding child custody, you can then follow the agreement as a means of keeping the peace.

The only thing you have to concern yourself with is following the court-approved parenting agreement. While you may understand the importance of doing so, it doesn’t mean the other parent will.

If your ex-spouse violates the parenting agreement, learn more about your legal rights and the steps you must take to protect them. If you don’t do anything about this, it’s possible that your situation could worsen in the weeks and months to come.

A parent who continually violates a parenting agreement is one that is not serious about doing what’s in the best interest of the child. You shouldn’t hesitate to do what’s best for you and your child.
