Child custody holiday mistakes: Will you avoid these?

On Behalf of | Oct 4, 2018 | Child Custody |

With the holiday season closing in fast, now’s the time to turn your attention to any child custody-related matters that could get in your way.

There are a variety of mistakes you need to avoid at all costs, including these five:

  • Neglecting to communicate with your ex-spouse: It may not be something you want to do, but it’s imperative if you want things to go smoothly during the holidays.
  • Saying no to a plan: Even if it’s very basic, you must work with your ex to create a plan to keep everyone on track during this busy time of the year.
  • Being uncooperative: You need to cooperate during the holidays, such as being flexible enough to make changes on the fly.
  • Forgetting to take the other parent’s feelings into consideration: This is a tough spot for all parties involved. You need to think about your ex from time to time, realizing that this person is going through the same thing as you.
  • Neglecting to make the most of your time with your children: There are only so many holidays to go around, so you want to value the time you spend with your children.

If you avoid these types of mistakes, you’ll find it much easier to avoid child custody-related issues during the holiday season.

Despite your best efforts, you may find that your ex-spouse doesn’t care to get along. They ignore the parenting agreement and make decisions that work for them and no one else. If this continues to happen, you may want to consider your legal rights for fighting back.
